Wanna Dance

Want to learn to dance but don't know where to start. Here is a list of dance schools teaching Rockabilly, Swing and Rock'N'Roll dance styles.

ROCKABILLY - Dance Classes

  • Limpin Jimmy & The Swingin Kitten - Camperdown. - Rockabilly is one of the earliest and most important styles of rock n' roll music to emerge during the 1950s. Rockabilly epitomized the worst fears of many conservatives at the time: that white boys and girls would begin to dance and sing in the wild ways associated with African-American culture, breaking down social barriers. The music was dominated by its original exponent, Elvis Presley and has had an important influence on rock music and popular culture, despite having flourished for only a short time during the 1950s. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, rockabilly enjoyed a major revival of popularity and has remained an important subculture since.

Rockabilly dance workshops are held every month at Swingtime, Level 2, 108 Parramatta Road, Camperdown. The beginners rockabilly dance workshops (2nd Sunday each month), where you learn this cool dance style from the 1950's, is designed for brand new beginners or dancers who would like to refresh the basics. They will you the basics, technique and some cool moves to get you started in this 3 hour workshop.

Beginners Refresher Rockabilly Dance Workshop and Intermediate Rockabilly Dance Workshop are held on the last Sunday each month. Beginner Refresher Workshop is now offered just prior to the Intermediate session so you can refresh the basics before moving on to Intermediate. This is ideal for dancers who have completed the 3 hour Beginners Dance Workshop who would like to consolidate what they have learnt.

Intermediate Rockabilly Dance Workshop is a 2 hour session which is designed to improve your dancing technique as well as learning new dance moves. This workshop is for dancers who have at least satisfactorily completed the Beginners or Beginners Refresher Workshops or dancers who would like to improve their style and learn more moves.
